Here is what was said about BarryFest 08!
This year's BarryFest was probably the best festival experience I've ever been a part of...I'm definitely on board for next year! Thanks

BarryFest - What a show! A beautiful Maui day was had by over a thousand who relaxed on the slopes of Rene Lilva's amphitheatr in Keopuolani Park.....The music was sublime, and not more than five minutes elapsed between groups. I haven't had an afternoon like that in 35 years. Mahalo Mana'o

That was the most impressively organized event I've seen during my 20 years on Maui. Major props for a spectacular job, and for creating something really worthy of Barry's legacy.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the folks involved with BarryFest for providing one of the best, if not the best family entertainment buys, that I have seen on Maui since my arrival. I would hope that this festival continues to grow ... and I also think that the response of the public is an indication of the public's appreciation of the commitment that Manao Radio has made for the betterment of our community ... I have had opportunity to see and hear a lot of talent during my life and the performances of all of the acts at the festival were of the highest quality ... I can only see bigger and better things in future for Manao Radio and such events ... I also think the venue is one that holds a great deal of promise for future events as well ... Again my congratulations to all those involved with the event ... it was a most enjoyable afternoon.
MANA'O RADIO'S HISTORY
Mana’o Radio is like a rare gem sitting in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a little hard to find at first, but once found to be treasured forever and shared with friends no matter where they are.
Mana’o Radio became a reality on March 11th 2002 with the airing their first broadcast. With the automation of commercial radio taking away the need for live DJ’s, Barry Shannon and his lovely co-anchor and wife Kathy Collins, saw the writing on the wall and took advantage of The FCC’s (Federal Communications Commission) rare opportunity of filing paperwork for the issuance of Low-Powered FM licenses to Non-Profit organizations that passed the rigorous paperwork process, especially when you find out the FCC only issued 13 licenses nation-wide during that filing period.
Barry’s previous experience as Chief Engineer in radio enabled him to dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s to reward the community of Maui with their first low-power, non-profit, free-form radio station. Mana’o Radio broadcasts live 24/7 at 91.5 FM, and for those outside of the broadcast signal, Mana’o Radio is available via the internet at www.manaoradio.com.
Mana’o Radio is a non-profit (501 (c) (3) organization funded by listener donations and staffed by volunteers who have combined to keep Mana‘o Radio 91.5 FM, one of the last free-form live radio stations in the country.
The Mission of Mana‘o Radio is to inform, educate and entertain the Maui community through broadcasts of multi-cultural and community-related programming. Much of the Mana‘o shared is musical, including frequent live performances by local and visiting artists.
The Dream & Spirit of MANA'O Lives on!

Mana'o is a Hawaiian word which means thought, idea, opinion, theory, meaning, mind; to think, suppose, meditate, deem, consider. It is one of many non-English words used frequently in Hawai'i, often in the phrase sharing mana'o, or the exchange of thoughts, feelings, and expertise. Pre-contact Hawaiians had no written language; knowledge was passed through the oral tradition of sharing mana‘o. We chose the name Mana'o Radio because we see this station as a modern extension of this tradition; an opportunity to educate the community through multicultural sharing.
In other words…
